Name Meaning of Ilona 2

The unusual name of Ilona is common only in areas of Hungary, Austria, and Finland. I did a name study on it because the usual meaning given was as a cognate of Helen. Since Hungarian is a language with very different roots than Greek or any western languages, I found that Finnish ( related by some sources to the Hungarian) has a meaning of a carrier of fragrance, and its byproduct, joy. I chose to include that as the meaning of the name and the characteristics listed by another source which most resonated to me. If you, your child, or someone you now has this girl's name, I hope you will use this wall decal to celebrate her. Colors chosen are plummy lavenders, but are customizable.
