several women wearing red headdresses standing next to each other
• This pin shows traditional Zagahawa women like those depicted in Tears of the Desert. This memoir recalled racial discrimination and the economic disparities that resulted from it, the mental distress caused by sexual assault and its ability to erode a woman’s will to live, and the realities of being a refugee, specifically from a developing country to a developed country. The Zagahawa/Arab divide in the novel illustrates all three forms of violence we have discussed in this class.

The Entire Global Economy, Visualized | Digg
This pin shows the effects of globalization in the world GDP. One can also deduce the ramifications of colonialization from the pin as we discussed in the powerpoint. Globalization has turned the world economy into a never-ending pitfall of debt and has turned many societies into market societies where every aspect of life has some kind of monetary value.

Poverty is often cyclical, and it has become increasingly difficult to break out of. For those born into poverty, lacking a formal education is one of the main reasons for remaining in their circumstances. Throughout this course, we have discussed how education increases the opportunities that children have available to them as they grow up.

There are various effects of economic development on refugee women. The issues that arise when resettling in another country can manifest themselves in physically (lack of adequate housing), mentally (mental health, specifically stress and PTSD), and culturally (being expected to keep family traditions in a new place, language barrier, different protocols than they are used to).
an empty classroom with desks and colorful decorations
This pin focuses on the horizontal form of job segregation. A kindergarten classroom was chosen because overall, more women are expected to hold this job than men. Many that deny the wage gap also insist that women are better suited for certain jobs than men, however even in industries where men and women are working at the same level, women continue to be paid less for their work.

Equal Pay Day: a wage gap fact check
I chose this pin specifically because it included data on both gender and racial pay inequality. As a partial cause of feminization of poverty, the wage gap does not only affect and devalue the work that women perform in comparison to men, but it also devalues the work done by members of a specific race. Shown in both the pin used and the graphs shown on the powerpoint slides, Asian men are the only demographic that earn more than the average white man.

Giving Birth in America Is Deadlier Now Than It Was 30 Years Ago
Additionally, lacking sufficient funds for a basic standard of living contributes to the maternal mortality rate in the United States, whose current rate is 11-30 deaths per 100,000 live births. Underpaid women can seldom afford the necessary pre and post-natal care that is needed to produce a healthy pregnancy, contributing to the rising maternal death rate of women in impoverished areas.
