Aquatic Oddities: Snail Food Signage
In this article, we picture a shop sign, that was formerly in use on our fish house premises. We had stored the fish house sign in a sealed storage container, which snails appear to have infiltrated and begun to munch on! Strangely enough, they only seem to have eaten the white lettering... maybe there is a particular ingredient in the sign colouring that snails don't like? #RealAquatics #FishHouse #Fish #Snails #AquaticSnails
The #nitrogen cycle is a natural process which is responsible for the conversion and generation of different nitrogen compounds. Ammonia is a nitrogen compound, excreted by all fishes, and is extremely toxic to them. High levels of #ammonia are a consequence of poor #filtration and over overstocking and/or overfeeding. Ammonia is converted to nitrate by filtration bacteria. Using a product like #Waterlife Bacterlife (for #aquariums) or Bacterlife P (for #ponds) will help keep levels safe. Why do you need to keep an Aquarium clean?
Keeping an #aquarium clean is essential for several reasons: Water Quality: Regular #cleaning helps maintain optimal water quality. #Fish produce waste (ammonia) that can accumulate and harm them if not removed. Clean water ensures their well-being. Algae Control: Algae growth can cloud the water, affecting visibility and #aesthetics. Regular cleaning prevents excessive #algae buildup, benefiting both fish and the overall appearance of the tank. #realaquatics

My filter flow has slowed down - what do I do?
Some aquariums have built-in filtration in the hood, in the form of a filter media tray that trickles water back into the aquarium. In this instance, its recommended to perform the same checks as mentioned above for an internal filter, on the pump or powerhead used to feed the filter. These will generally be impeller-driven devices too.

How often do you need to change UV Bulbs?
How often should I change my UV bulb? Typically, an Ultraviolet or UV lamp lasts 12 months or about 9000 hours of use. The light stays lit longer than 12 months but after one year of use it's ability to kill bacteria will slowly diminish, leaving your fish tank or pond fish vulnerable to disease. It ability to clear algae will also be reduced. So you should change your UV bulbs at least once a year. #RealAquatics #UVsterilisers #Ponds #Aquariums #ForFish
