Astral Creatures: THYLACINE Better known as the Tasmanian tiger, the thylacine looked like a cross between a dog & a tiger but actually belong to the marsupial family. These animals were hunted because they were considered pests for allegedly killing livestock. Hunting, together with habitat loss & diseases introduced to their habitat lead them to extinction. The last known thylacine died in the 1930s and after 50 years without sightings of the species, it was declared extinct in 1982
