Abstract Art Activity for Kids

Today I had 5 children out of my Year 3 class who had completely finished the class project, so I did a quick, fun, abstract art activity with them using our new paint sticks. They had to create a variety of geometric and organic shapes that overlapped and then trace around all the shapes, including overlapping parts, with permanent marker. They then used the Posca pens to make patterns inside each part. So bright and gorgeous and the others wanted to do it so much they sped up their work.

Shape to Form and Fantastical Creatures | Middle school art projects, School art projects, 6th grade art

Along with teaching Math in our charter school, I teach an art project for three hours each week. I wanted to teach my 7th and 8th graders how to start creating 3-dimensional illusions on their 2-dimensional paper... in other words, how to make form using light. I showed the students this tutorial on converting shape to form. They followed along, and withing a few minutes they had shaded six shapes into 3-D forms. Then I asked them to invent a creature using a combination of the shapes they…
