The poem was written when India was under the British Rule and people were eagerly waiting to get their freedom from the British Rule. The poem is written by Rabindranath Tagore in the form of a prayer to the God, the Almighty for a true freedom for his country. Tagore reveals his own concept of freedom throughout the poem. I found this poem at the American Flag Foundation’s website. The author wrote it just a few days after September 11, 2001. The poem touched my heart so I thought I would share it with you all. As we celebrate American Independence Day this weekend, let’s all take a moment to remember the millions of people who have died to protect our freedom.
