Dozmary Pool SSSI, Cornwall, England, is a small lake on Bodmin Moor. The oligotrophic pool is important for its palynological record, or history of the vegetation, since the last ice-age. It is also part of a network of sites in south-west England for the reconstruction of vegetation history. In the fine granitic gravel on the bottom of the pool grows spring quillwort. Breeding birds around the pool include Eurasian curlew, dunlin, northern lapwing, common snipe and European stonechat.

KING ARTHUR | Cornwall: Dozmary Pool is a natural moorland lake situated to the south of Bolventor on Bodmin Moor. 'Thomas Malory (1485) was the first to have Bedivere (Bedwyr) returning the sword to the Lady of the Lake, a concept that is first found in the Old French Vulgates of 1230-1240, so evidently had a body of water near the Salisbury Plain in mind. A sword has been retrieved from Dozmary Pool in Cornwall by a 7-year-old girl who was paddling in the shallow water near the edge. Local folklore has it that this was the very lake where the legendary Excalibur was thrown by Sir Bedivere after the Battle of Camlann and King Arthur’s death.
