John Bratby, Still Life with Chip Frier. The still lifes of this London artist were dubbed part of the 'Kitchen Sink School' by art critic David Sylvester in 1954. He was in a group of artist who deliberately created drab often dismal domestic interiors and still life scenes. Their work struck a chord in it's bleakness with the prvailing mood in post-war Britain.
