Friday Treat! A close-up look at the beautiful silk of this 18th century ensemble, on display from TODAY 🎉 The silk was woven around 1740 with a design just bursting with peonies, carnations and tulips. The robe was later re-modelled, but still has its matching shoes and clogs!

Gown Robe volante, Europe 1740s. Brocaded silk. A transitional style between the tent-like version of the early 18th century and the more structured robe à la francaise. The brocade had been designed and positioned so the floral pattern creates a mirror image.
