Submerged tree in the Green Lake. The Green Lake or Grüner See is a lake in Austria that dries out almost completely during fall, is used as a county park in the winter and is famous for the underwater park which forms during the spring due to the snow meltdown.
From Meroë to the Senilac Peroglyphs
About 760 BC, the Nubians of the Kush Empire invaded and conquered Egypt beginning the period of the Black Pharaohs. They made Meroë (pronounced mayor-way) their capitol. They built Jebel Barkel (or Napata) as a sign that Egypt belongs to Nubia. And for their Kings and Queens, who ruled equally, they built these distinctly Nubian pyramids. Their kingdom would last longer than the Egyptians and would end with their defeat by another African empire, the Kingdom of Axum in 656 BC.

Egypt, tomb of queen Nefertari. It is one of the best preserved and most ornate of all known tombs. The walls are painted with the deities (from left to right) Serket, Isis, Khepri, Osiris (above entrance), Hathor and Horus. The tomb was discovered in 1904 by the Italian archaeologist Ernesto Schiaparelli. In 2003 the tomb was closed to the general public.

About 7000 years ago in what is now Southwest Germany, was a city called 'Herxheim', a city that was mysteriously abandoned. A few years ago, Dr. Bruno Boulestin and his team were investigating the region, when they hit a grave containing the bones of 500 people. The marks on the bones show that the bodies were skinned and had their flesh removed using techniques almost identical to those for butchering animals. One researcher suggested that some of the victims could even have been spit-roasted.

Ancient aqueduct. It was built by the Nazca people hundreds of years ago to provide water from the local river to villages. The aqueduct is undeground. It has a few dozens of "windows", spiral wells which capture the wind and use its force to pump the water.
