Malagasy nature

Searching through Internet, I learnt that many impressive animals became extinct ever since human settled in this island. As an example, we could name the Elephant Bird and the Malagasy Hippopotamus, which looked like a pigmy hippo.... As of 2008, there are officially 99 species and subspecies of lemurs, 39 of which have been described by zoologists between 2000 and 2008. And I am sure there are plenty other species just waiting to be discovered!
